Betrayal in the Name of Help

Diagnosing and labeling children with “diseases” like Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Bipolar Disorder is the most disruptive and destructive force in our schools today.

There is no biological basis for these disorders – no blood test, no brain scan, no physical evidence whatsoever to show the existence of these “diseases.”

“Despite more than two hundred years of intensive research, no commonly diagnosed psychiatric disorders have proven to be either genetic or biological in origin, including schizophrenia, major depression, manic-depressive disorder, the various anxiety disorders, and childhood disorders such as attention-deficit hyperactivity. At present there are no known biochemical imbalances in the brain of typical psychiatric patients—until they are given psychiatric drugs.”— Peter Breggin, MD, Harvard-trained psychiatrist and former consultant at the National Institute of Mental Health who has been called “The Conscience of Psychiatry”

Psychologists, medical practitioners, guidance counselors, teachers, parents and even the students themselves use subjective quesionnaires about feelings and behavior to determine whether or not they have one of these “diseases.” They are then sent to a psychiatrist who invariably prescribes heavy mind-altering drugs.

“Virtually anyone at any given time can meet the criteria for bipolar disorder or ADHD. Anyone. And the problem is everyone diagnosed with even one of these ‘illnesses’ triggers the pill dispenser.” — Dr. Stefan Kruszewski, Psychiatrist

The lack of physical evidence of these “diseases” has not stopped the majority of psychiatrists from prescribing destructive, mind-altering drugs with side effects like suicide, violence, depression and brain damage. The pharmaceutical industry continues to push their poison on an uninformed public and collect billions of dollars a year for decades, all in the name of help.

“In seeking to impose ‘brain disease’ labels and drugs on normals of all ages, including our elders, psychiatry betrays us and is no longer a patient advocate. Instead they have become pharmaceutical industry and government advocates and the greatest health care fraud in history.” — Dr. Fred Baugham, Pediatric Neurologist and author of The ADHD Fraud—How Psychiatry Makes “Patients” of Normal Children.

PBS Interview with Dr. Fred Baugham, 2000

Some children have a rough time getting along at home or at school but the answer to these problems is not psychiatric drugs or other harmful psychiatric or psychological “treatments.” Childhood is not a mental disorder. Below you’ll find resources for more detailed information on the labeling and drugging of children and some places to find alternatives to help your child.

My hope is that, armed with this information, you will say no to anyone who suggests your child needs drugs or any other harmful psychiatric treatment

Medicated Mediocrity

A Poem by Jack Thompson

Slavering slavers gnash their greasy teeth and salivate
Over multitudes of mind-numbed droids;
It’s time-released happiness, so try not to be late
Getting all the mediocrity you can medicate.

Not to worry, doctor approved safety is assured,
It didn’t kill the rats, and they seem satisfied;
Never mind the caveat that nothing can be cured,
Feed it to your family like it says in the brochure.

If it’s side effects you want, we’ve got you covered there,
When we take away your pain, we give plenty in return,
Our experts tell us anything less would be cruelly unfair,
So if your heart doesn’t give out, you’ll probably lose your hair.

If it doesn’t outright kill you, won’t it make you strong?
Commercials never lie or obfuscate the truth,
All those warm, smiling faces couldn’t all be wrong,
A little magic pill was what you needed all along.

Slavering slavers gnash their greasy teeth and salivate
Over multitudes of mind-numbed droids;
It’s time-released happiness, so try not to be late
Getting all the mediocrity you can medicate.

Candy-coated nightmares now available for all.
